There are different types of airborne pollutants that live in the airspace of various organisations, potentially posing a threat to both its employees and customers. A fume extraction hood is commonly used in graphic design environments where spray booths are often found, as it works by quickly catching the fumes and removing them from the airspace. The fume hood can protect against spray adhesives, paint and sealant fumes, and is also often found in medical and dental areas as well as pharmaceutical laboratories.

Although such solvent fume extraction units can come at a price, healthy employees mean increased productivity, so it is a win/win situation for everyone in the long run. They can help prevent the various sicknesses that have been known to result from a high content of hazardous substances and fumes such as eye infections, lung disease and asthma.

Implementing Fume Extractors on Industrial and Electrical Work

fume extractor

Fume Extractor for Industrial Use

It is a well known fact that fume extractors are used in the industrial and electrical industry to provide protection against fumes and other harmful substances. Some of the extractors that are used to remove the fumes from the air in these environments are also known to be used in dental and medical laboratories, where hazardous solvents are too common practice.

Fume extractors are more than often applied in conjunction with a fume extraction hood when external venting is not available, but the capturing and filtration of fumes is necessary. It works by extracting the air from the space and removing all the pollutants in order to make the air safer to breath.

In addition, there are extractors available that are used to remove specific fumes and pollutants from the airspace such as the solder fume extractor and the weld fume extractor. To ensure that you purchase the correct fume extractor, it is important to understand that there are various sizes available and that some are designed to withstand harsher chemicals than others, in larger industrial type spaces.

These larger units are used when smaller products such as fume extraction cabinets are not considered to be feasible. Smaller portable equipment is better used by those who need their equipment to be more practical and easily accessible. These smaller units are therefore made to be simply placed on a work surface and used to clean small airspaces.

Whatever equipment you require, make sure that it falls in line with the health and safety regulations set out by COSSH. Widespread Solutions is a top UK manufacturer of a reliable industrial and electrical fume extraction system range. All of their products are extremely durable and versatile, and even carry a lifetime warranty. If you need advice on which type of system you require, contact their expert team today.

Portable Fume Extractors and Their Use in the Educational Sector

portable fume extractor

Portable Fume Extractor

Fume extraction equipment is regularly used in places like dental and medical areas, graphic design studios and even in educational environments. Portable fume extractors are ideal to use as protection against sprays, resins, sealants, paints and other hazardous solvents in these types of areas as they keep the airspace clean.

Students studying subjects such as design technology and science are constantly working with harmful substance such as paints, aerosols, varnishes, solder fumes and airbrush sprays in tight work areas. It is for this reason that portable units specifically are the ideal piece of equipment to use as they are small in size and can be easily moved around easily. When using any of these contaminants in a laboratory, lab fume hoods can also be used to catch the harmful fumes before releasing the cleaned air into the space.

All fume extraction equipment must fall in line with those of the COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations which are set out to protect both pupils and employees from airborne substances.

DUSTPRO – Removes The Hazards Associated with Exposure to Human Nail Dust

Techflo Dustpro

Techflo Dustpro

The use of podiatry drills without engineering controls or the correct personal protective equipment is an occupational hazard to the health care provider.

Rotating at up to 12000rpm and even with local exhaust ventilation and extraction systems fitted, staff may still be exposed to nail dust generated during foot care procedures.  This dust can contain keratin, keratin hydrolysates, microbial debris and viable fungal elements including dermatophytes and saprotrophs.

With on-tool extraction efficiencies varying so much (they can be as much as 75% ineffective) we have launched a range of Local Exhaust Ventilation units to supplement the work of the on-tool system.

Each of the four units in the Dustpro range has been developed to ensure the safe and effective removal of dust and small particles given off when drilling.

The pumps used in the Dustpro are brushless and designed for continuous running with a minimum of 30,000 hours use before servicing.  They are quiet running and generate high vacuums for greater efficiency. The large capacity bag filter can be easily emptied and reused.

World Record Attempt Update:

As you know we were involved in the attempt to set a new world record for the number of spray tan applications in one hour. This was achieved with a staggering 67 tans done!

All the verification details were sent to the Guinness World Record people, who have just advised that although the details have been logged as received, they cannot now find them! This means that our attempt cannot be verified and therefore does not qualify as a world record. As you can imagine, all who were involved are quite upset to say the least as it was timed to be performed during the Miss Teen Beauty Queen pageant.

It has been decided that we should re stage the attempt. This time we have enlisted the help and promotional help from a major UK men’s lifestyle magazine.

This attempt will take place in London sometime next month and we will update nearer the time and of course relay the result as soon as we have it!

Healthier Working Environments with Air Filtration Units

air filtration unitsAir filtration systems in general are used to remove particles from the air like dust, bacteria and fumes in households and places of work.

There are many factors that can contribute to maintaining a healthy working environment. One of the most important elements is having a clean and effective air flow which can be controlled by installing an air filtration system.

By improving the quality of air via the use of air filtration units, staff absenteeism can also be reduced and therefore help to increase productivity. Air filtration systems can also make a work space more comfortable by ensuring that it is not too neither hot nor too cold.

Fume filtration and dust filtration units can also be used in various industrial areas to help keep dangerous fumes in the air from harming employees. These larger types of air filtration equipment are mostly found in workshops where employees come into contact with dangerous chemicals everyday and therefore need to be monitored.

The types of dust and fumes that are involved when it comes to the engineering industry include gases caused from welding, degreasing and stripping fluids, lubricants, paints and adhesives. One should also be careful when working with wood as the dust, especially from the Western Red Cedar which can be particularly harmful to asthma suffers.

fume filtrationAir filtration cabinets on the other hand are useful to environments where external venting is not an option. The cabinet works by capturing and filtering the air and is quiet and easy to work. You can simply place it onto a desk or any other open surface and switch on. These units are ideal for dental and pharmaceutical laboratories as well as in office environments. Mist filtration equipment can help solve the problem of the overspray of particles which are often a hazard to salons and mobile therapists.

There are a number of household, commercial industrial air filtration systems available to help guarantee the protection of individuals who are placed under the above and other similar risky conditions daily. Just remember that no matter which system your business requires, it will have to abide by the necessary health and safety regulations.

Widespread Solutions
is a UK manufacturer of such air filtration equipment. All of their products abide by the required health and safety regulations and are COSSH compliant. Visit their website for more information on their products and services.
